School Visits & Author Appearances

One of the best parts about being an author is interacting with students, teachers and librarians. Lindy is available for all kinds of events, from School Visits to Book Festivals to Library Conferences. Author visits can take a variety of forms and Lindy is happy to custom build a program that will meet your school and students' needs. Educator materials and discussion guides are also available for YA books, and book orders/signings can be added to any event with no minimum requirement.

Possible author appearance programs (in-person or online):
  1. Lindy reads and/or talks about her book(s).
  2. Lindy talks about her process of writing, where she gets his ideas, her pathway to getting the book published, etc.
  3. Lindy conducts a workshop to help students write stories or poetry.
  4. A large scale presentation in an auditorium for several grade levels.
  5. A small scale presentation for a single class or for a small work-group.

Elementary School

  • Grades K–3: Lindy focuses on the development of a picture book, taking the children through the literary elements of storyboarding and character development.
  • Grades 4–6: She works with kids on journaling (how to set up a journal, map out and brainstorm ideas, and then pull ideas from the journal to work into a short story) and goes over elements of storytelling such as character development, problem/solution, and the importance of double endings of both physical and emotional plots.

GET SPOOKY WITH INTERACTIVE STORY TIME

Lindy starts by sharing her own love for stories and Halloween, and engages with students by talking about how each student might celebrate the holiday and what some of their favorite costumes, candies, etc. may be. She will then read her picture book, Trick of Treat, Alistair Gray. From there, Lindy will use Alistair as a model to show your students how they can create their own stories with a storyboarding exercise even the youngest kids can understand. Using the ingredients of setting, character, problem and resolution, she will work with students to create a story, and your students will leave with the tools (and motivation) to become storytellers themselves.
*Includes discussion guide and coloring sheet handouts
*Includes custom book order form with discount; copies hand-signed with notes to the kids

A DAY IN THE LIFE OF AN AUTHOR
Uses The Isle of Gold as a basis, please request classroom curricula kits here

Part education, part motivation, Lindy will share her path to becoming an author, and what an average day in the life for an author might look like. She will talk about persistence, a positive inner voice, and inspires kids no matter what their dreams might be. This presentation can work for a larger group, or can be customized to fit into classroom pedagogy. A Q & A gives students time to ask questions so the presentation truly reflects the interests of your group.

45 minutes; Powerpoint; single class or large whole school
